Today's dose of cheer:
Weird porn author who was dragged into Hugo Awards mess pulls off epic troll:
In which Chuck Tingle decides that if he does win the Hugo for Best Short Story, he will ask Zoe Quinn to accept it for him. (She has said yes, and changed her Twitter handle to "True Buckaroo," a Tingle reference.)
Petition: David Attenborough to change his name to "Boaty McBoatface":
After the public overwhelmingly voted to name a new British Natural Environment Research Council vessel "Boaty McBoatface," the UK government pulled a switcheroo, declaring the will of the people to be secondary to the judgment of humourless bureaucrats, and summarily named the ship the R.R.S. David Attenborough.
Accordingly, the ever-resourceful public are now petitioning to have Sir David Attenborough renamed to "Boaty McBoatface." It's a fine intervention, in the tradition of the petition to rename Stephen Harper to "Calgary International Airport".
List of Spacecraft in the Culture Series:
Speaking of boat names--I have never actually read Iain M. Banks's Culture books, despite being urged to do so, but the ship names are fantastic. I've been giggling my way through the list since last night. (If you have an opinion on whether or not I should read this series after all, please let me know in comments.)

Date: 2016-05-09 04:49 am (UTC)I know several people who love the Culture books, but the only one I tried to read was kind of blah. I am told by my Culture-loving friends that I apparently started with one of the less interesting ones, though. (Unfortunately I am now blanking on the name.)
