Fandom stocking was fun this year!

At my stocking I got Delenn icons, Supergirl icons, Goblin Emperor icons (of Maia <3), Doctor Who icons and Michelle Gomez icons.

Plus lots of greetings, some links to original SFF femslash, a promise of femShep/Jack fic, an Eighth Doctor picspam, and recs for the TV show Green Wing (which is apparently the UK answer to Scrubs, and features Michelle Gomez as an entertainingly awful hospital staff liaison, Tamsin Greig as the new doctor on the block, and a bunch of very pretty people being, again, entertaining dicks).

A bit late, but finally getting to some recs from rarepairfest. There are a lot more in other fandoms that I haven't gotten to yet, but here's two fantastic stories from the Babylon 5 fandom!


Title: A Kind Word and a Two-by-Four
Author: Azar
Pairing/Characters: Stephen Franklin/Marcus Cole, Susan Ivanova, various Minbari
Rating/Word Count: 8700 words, PG
Summary: A Ranger is trained to "truly see and to see things as they truly are in all situations." When Marcus finds himself unexpectedly alive after he meant to sacrifice himself, it forces him to realize how little he's applied that principle when it comes to his own heart.
Notes: Marcus, man. This story captures his impulsiveness and sometimes-oblivious idealism really well, and lets him do some self-examination too. And poor Stephen, quietly in love and trying to help Marcus through his melodrama without giving anything away. The longest fic I've ever read for this pairing, and worth every single word.


Title: dans le meilleur des mondes

Summary: Susan Ivanova long ago learned that she couldn't have everything she wanted. That's why she is a project manager, not a Starfury pilot, and that's definitely why she can't seem to get away from the last Minbari she ever wanted to see again.
Notes: The one where Delenn's marriage to a human was a political arrangement...to a young Susan Ivanova, who thinks 80% of what Delenn is up to is bullshit. A really deftly drawn AU, with Jeff--and the station itself--as a great supporting character. I want more.

Utterly gorgeous mentor/protégé story with Jeffrey Sinclair and Alisa Beldon on Minbar during the events of To Dream In The City of Sorrows (so, season 2/3). Makes me want to cling to Jeff and go "Come baaaack!" which admittedly is my default setting for him. Also makes me want all the grownup!Alisa fic.

Title: rocket queens

Fandom: Babylon 5 (Pacific Rim fusion AU)
Pairing: Susan/Talia, 3400 words
Rating: G
Summary:
Telepaths rose the same year as the kaiju, and the Pan Pacific Defense Corps provided a convenient way to keep both away from the general population.
In which Susan and Talia get their happy ending, in a universe where punching Godzilla with giant robots is a valid life choice. Susan still manages to toss an telepath out a window.

It's done! The fic I've been working on since spring 2012 is finally finished, woohoo! Still needs a bit of editing/beta-reading for the last chapter, but HURRAY! Will post link when it goes up to AO3. (Susan/Delenn, Delenn/Lennier, post-SIL fic thing, about 22,000 words which counts as longfic for me!)

Ed. note: I think the Susan/Talia is not my best work, as I was rushing to meet the deadline and I don't usually write that pairing; apparently it's still Relevant to a few people's Interests. The Vir/Lennier/Na'Toth, though, for all the crackiness of the concept, is one of my favourite pieces I've written. :)

I didn't sign up for Yuletide this year (though I did nominate for Foreigner, which got fic, and I read some lovely things by other people). Maybe next year. Instead I participated in femslash12 and fandom_stocking, the first fests I've done in ages. There was a certain amount of hair-pulling and last-minute nail-biting (see also: first fests done in ages), but all in all I had a great time.

For femslash12 I wrote in a new fandom and received a gift for a rarepair I'd requested and not expected to have filled due to lack of canon. For fandom_stocking I was a bit nervous, as I wasn't sure how it worked and whether I was doing enough, but it looks like all the people I did fills for got lots of presents besides mine (so, just in case mine sucked :P), and OMG, so many shiny things for me! I'm bouncing in my seat here. ♥ (Stocking here; feel free to go read.)

2) hearts_blood sent me a hand-painted blue silk scarf from RenFaire! It is soooo pretty, and smells like the store it came from--sandalwood or something. *pets it* When I find (or replace) my cell phone again I'll have to take a picture. It's light and dark blue, and the light blue is just about the colour of the blue patches on Minbari skin. ♥

Long time no post!

In case anyone's interested, I'm reccing Babylon 5 fanfiction over at crack_van for the month of July 2012. I signed up in about March, and expected them to call me up in the middle of something awkward, but nope, it looks like I'll have time for it! \o/

B5 has been recced over there twice before, in June 2004 (which netted us a fantastic fandom overview) and September 2008. So I'll be promoting fics that have been written since then. There'll probably be a lot more humans and Minbari this time around (as those are what I'm into, and there was a lot more Centauri/Narn stuff earlier), though keep an eye out for the Na'Toth femslash fic coming up!

There'll be about a dozen fics over the course of the month, and you can follow them all at the Babylon 5 tag at crack_van.
