I'm just. I'm really relieved. Like all of you, I think. <3
Two comments on the 2020 election:
A president whose response to the deaths of so many of his fellow-citizens is the urge to offer COMFORT is making me choke up a little bit. Basic human decency! Yeah, there's too much religion in American politics, but one of the good uses of religion is comfort in sorrow. And that raw genuine expression of my-sorrow-to-yours, I grieve with thee--can we have more of that, please? While we get to work.
On a lighter note, I glanced through my few remaining memes from the 2008 election to see if I had any that were still relevant, and I found this one and cracked up. (Note to self: attempt to find out who created it.) So for all my old RahmBamaRama peeps, in fondness and in celebration, I give you--
(cut to spare your eyeballs from lolarious shirtless photoshop, lmao)

JOEY'S GONNA CELEBRATE!

Date: 2020-11-08 08:44 am (UTC)That is delightful, thank you.
Compassion matters. At this point in my life I have a near allergy to Christian rhetoric based on the uses it's been put to, but compassion always matters, and the outgoing administration has been characterized not just by its absence but by opposition to the very concept. So, yes. It's nice to see the change.

Date: 2020-11-08 12:44 pm (UTC)Yes, very much the same re: Christian rhetoric & the uses it's been put to. But GOD, compassion matters, and I felt it threaded all through that speech. (I do enjoy Joe Biden when he gets preaching on something he's right about--and stuff like "Dammit we have to take care of each other!" is one of them.)
Makes me feel like I can breathe.
And LOL, glad you liked the meme! :D :D

Date: 2020-11-08 06:28 pm (UTC)This is what people keep saying. Or that a weight they didn't realize was so heavy has been lifted from them. It is amazing the difference a future makes when it looks like you might live into it. We still have to get through the pandemic. I still worry about that. But if we do, then it should be possible to live, not just endure, and that's huge.

It felt to me too like he was calling people in--any of his conservative co-religionists who might recognize the God-talk and stop for a second to think about whether what he was saying made sense.
It's a hell of a time to be president of the USA, but I think he's pretty grounded. I hope so.
