So yesterday was our second anniversary. It doesn't seem like it's been that long! Then again we've been together since 2010 so we haven't yet been married as long as we were dating.

Anyway, we celebrated with pancakes (in the morning) and fancy booze (in the evening--I believe Mucca made a manhattan based on chocolate rye, which was just as swanky as it sounds). I gave her this adorable card and she gave me this necklace, though she actually got me the necklace in town so I've been wearing it for a couple of weeks already. :D (It's pretty amazing, and manages to combine romance, my fannish history, and a reference to my first try at college, all in one piece, which I figure is pretty great.)

There will be fancy cake for Mucca's birthday later in the week, but we are waiting on the grocery tender, which has not yet arrived. (Tomorrow perhaps?) Today I have poked at my accounting homework, and am procrastinating on fest fic, during which time I looked at cute pictures of boys in lipstick and then fell down a rabbit hole into a couple of fannish queer criticism essays. Which, well, I spent the whole time going "Fuck your 'sites of transgression against heteronormativity', give me some actual women in love!" (Even though, sure, I can buy fanon bisexual Howard Stark, or ship Sam/Steve or Peggy/Angie, or whatever. I just don't think some of this stuff is as revolutionary as the essay writer did.)

Anyway. Lifes goes on. I should probably make a whole post squeeing about how I got Mass Effect 3 to work (AT LAST) and how much I'm enjoying that. (A fandom which, as a matter of fact, does have canon f/f in this installment and hot boys to perv over. And fireballs to throw. It's pretty great.)

So I've downloaded and installed ME3, Origin is doing its thing, I've tried every single thing I can find online as to how to make it go, and...nada. It refuses to perform the very basic operation of actually opening the program when I double-click on the .exe file or press PLAY from within Origin.

I have been communing with my computer system for about five hours on this subject and it steadfastly answers with "NOPE."

fuckity fuck fuck what the fuckity what?

AUGH

Meanwhile I am reading Ancillary Mercy and Tisarwat's worries about Breq's plans for Station and cackling sadly to myself. :P

So I'm glad I specified "setting up for" multiplayer ME3 with [personal profile] justice_turtle in yesterday's post, because that's exactly what happened.

It turns out that if you want to play a new game you don't already have, you do in fact have to download it. I'm glad I'm attempting this project on big city wifi, man.

So we ended up chatting for a couple of hours about gameplay and fandom and etc. Actually a lot of fun. :D This morning it looks like the main game file has arrived, though I need to see about the free DLCs.

And possibly learn how to walk and not fall over before attempting to play with anyone else. :P Interested to see what differs from Mass Effect 2.

A note, because I'll probably want to have written it down somewhere for later:

Finished my first playthrough of Mass Effect 2 last week! My very first videogame since half-assed attempts at Commander Keen a dozen years ago. I really, really loved it.

Am in two minds about playing the other games in the series, so for now I've started a second playthrough with a slightly different character. It's interesting to see how much I've forgotten about earlier events in the game since last time (three months ago) and it really is a whole different experience going into missions now that I know how to, you know, walk and click on things without getting killed or intensely frustrated. :P

Anyway. I'm so happy I got to know/be fem!Shep. And while I obviously was going to love being the hero in a 90's-style space opera, and the pretty blue space ladies were also a draw, I was surprisingly into throwing fireballs. So much more fun than shooting guns (though the Cain makes an impressive asplosion too).
