I feel like somebody on my flist is into She-Hulk. We've been sorting out our comics collection (90% Mucca's) during our move, and I've just re-read Marvel Her-oes (the high school AU where Jen Walters and Janet Van Dyne are best friends). Then Mucca dug up She-Hulk's origin story from one of the collections of oldschool stories she has. And I just really, really like her and would love to read more. But where to start?

Also, I'm totally loving the new Supergirl show, and now want to read her comics. (Also just hit the part of Batgirl: The Flood where Kara comes to visit and together they fight crime Dracula holograms.) Mucca tells me that Supergirl's timeline is even more fucked than usual for comic books, though, and that they keep hitting her with random AUs. And then there's Power Girl (who I also adore), who is sometimes also Kara Zor-El (Zor-L?)? ??? So, anyone know anything about Supergirl comics? I like her kicking ass and being cheerful and being from space, though I'm not averse to some angst too.

*wanders back to the stack of comics stolen from the newly organized cupboard (it's so nice!), while eyeing her accounting homework about long-term notes payable*

I feel like Jess Plummer over on Panels did a Supergirl comics rec when the show started.

The recent She-Hulk series by Charles Soule has very divisive art but the story is great. The same characters are carrying on in the current Patsy Walker AKA Hellcat series.

I am really not a fan of Dan Slott, but the first two arcs of his She-Hulk run (2004) were pretty good.

Also a fan of the Supergirl show. The one thing I can definitively answer is that it is, indeed, Kara Zor-El, since women are named for their fathers. Superman is Kal-El, son of Jor-El, of the House of El. Kara is Kara Zor-El, daughter of Zor-El, of the House of El. Astra and Alura would both have their father's name as surname as well. Jor-El and Zor-El are either brothers or cousins, I forget. Probably brothers.

Aha. I misunderstood. That's weird.

I did not know that. I've never seen Queer as Folk, though.

I tried L Word, and don't think I finished more than an episode or two. Even if it's better, I don't think I'd care for QAF.

Yeah, when it was on the air, I had no way to watch it. Some things you have to watch at the right time in your life.
