trucking along okay

I feel weirdly like I have nothing to do and too many things to do at the same time, so perhaps making a list will help.

No particular order, varying wildly in levels of urgency, importance, and time commitment.

Things to get done:

- Figure out school for the fall: what courses to take, and sign up for them. Decide if the "Theory of Colour" course is a good one to take right now (alongside probably Intermediate Accounting II: Liabilities and All That Jazz?) or if I just want to do one course at a time atm. Or if I'm feeling Industrious (ahaha no) and want to do two BComm courses.

- Investigate deaf/HOH-friendly first aid courses. It's a good time, while I'm off the lights and in town where they, you know, give the courses.

- Investigate possible sign language course? Last time, Mucca took one and I didn't since I had to work, leading to the non-deaf person in the household knowing more sign than the deaf one. :P

- Paint my nails (probably rainbow colours again, that's fun)

- Finish reading Ancillary Mercy. I like it so far (especially Zeiat!) but have only settled down to read for small snatches.

- Set up for multiplayer Mass Effect games with justice_turtle. :D :D Going to take a stab at that tonight. I think it's ME3 or something which I've not played? Anyway, exciting. :D


Things checked off to-do list:

- Get a pillow I can sleep on. I think I have one! Squishable, but not too flat. Will sleep on it tonight and see.

- Buy boots! I have wide feet and nothing ever damn well fits, at least not in interesting colours or designs. But I found some ankle boots that fit pretty well, good stompy soles but not super heavy like Docs. And they're a deeply satisfying shade of red. :D My entire wardrobe is basically shades of blue with a bit of green & purple thrown in, but for some reason red boots were important.

- Get Dark Matter sci-fi show to watch. Also Magic Mike XXL and Paddington (2014).

- Grocery shop. Make chicken tikka masala. It was pretty good; should get the proper spices to make it from scratch without the pre-mixed curry paste, but it wasn't half bad as it was. Plus, I remembered the recipe without the Jamie Oliver cookbook. A first. :D


Tired, want to go home, etc, but probably doing a bit better than Mucca.

Dinner with my brother & his fiancé on Thanksgiving Monday. He's just across the street so that should be fun. :-) No word yet on whether other brother is coming as well or if he's doing something with girlfriend's family.

Will make post about Charming Potato Magic Mike XXL and The Martian, both of which we saw this week.

Really, those are good things to fall for! What tipped me over was that apparently Zoie Palmer is the robot? I saw her in Lost Girl (she's one half of the main canon f/f pairing) and omg she'd be so good as an android.

Well, that and the girl with green hair, she looks super cute. And the plot sounds up my alley, or at least worth giving a shot!

OH, DUDE, THE ANDROID IS SO GOOD. SHE'S LIKE ONE OF THE BEST THINGS ABOUT IT NO LIE. And the little girl is Five! She's super good two, they are two of my favourites.

....ooh, I should watch Lost Girl, shouldn't I.

When I first saw people talking about One, Two, Five, etc, with girls in it, I assumed it was genderswapped Doctor Who. :D But apparently not!

Lost Girl is...well, it's a thing. The plot didn't always engage me and the main dude bored me to tears. But I have heard that other people like him, so! (Heroine is bisexual and has a werewolf cop boyfriend for at least the first season, I wandered off partway through S2 so IDK what's happening these days, but she also did have a thing with Lauren aka android lady.)

That said, the heroine looks good in a leather jacket and kicks bad guys in the head a lot, and has a really fun relationship with her BFF (Ksenia Solo--seen elsewhere as Cosima's new gf on Orphan Black--in dark hair and black eyeliner, mmm). And canon bi, though not with the BFF. Really, Kenzi the best friend was my favourite part, and the werewolf cop's best friend/sidekick, a black male siren, is also aces.

TL;DR It's more along the lines of trashy fun than anything, and the heroine's angst etc may or may not work for you, but I'm glad I saw at least part of it. (And they continue in the fine tradition of poaching Canadian actors from other shows, or rather other shows poaching their cast, so you may see occasional familiar faces.)

Also, there is this bit where ZP does like five silly accents in one minute and it is hilarious and also makes you tear up, in context. No lie.

More and more I'm starting to think she was criminally underused in Lost Girl! (Where she plays a doctor working for [dubious powerful character] and spends a lot of time standing around looking worried and telling heroine all the bad things that are likely to happen/why they can't do X thing without trouble from fae politics/etc. With occasional snoggage.)

Oh, booo. Without getting spoilerriffic, she's the android in the crew on Dark Matter and while they could have gone the old Data Learns How to Feel Feelings way, they do it a great way with her and she feels like a part of the crew BUT ALSO never stops seeming like an android. It's a great acting job. And they made her eyes seem half the size of her face! They are HUGE.

This sounds AWESOME. I did see a picture of her as the android on Tumblr and it looked great. Can't wait. :D
