First-line meme (from Mucca and Kore)

List the first lines of your last ten stories. See if there are any patterns.
1. Once upon a time the Smoking Alpaca was lounging about in her smoking jacket, reading forbidden Belladonna femslash on the compound divan, when the Sweater Pony clopped in.
2. "Oh no!" cried the Twelfth Doctor.
3. The Doctor slams the TARDIS doors shut behind him and leans back against them, hearts pounding.
4. The flash of black fire from the Shadow vessel masks the stomach-dropping lurch as the rip in spacetime grabs her.
5. The last thing Susan had ever expected to be doing in Tuzanor was watching Daffy Duck.
6. "Close your eyes."
7. The figure in brown and grey melted out of the shadows and matched his stride before Stephen even realized he was there.
8. Michael wasn't sure what it was that brought him out of a sound sleep at three o'clock in the morning.
9. Autumn in the Shire was always glorious, but Frodo thought the orange and red and yellow leaves and the hazy mists over the Water were especially beautiful this year.
10. "Go to bed, Ma. Really. We're fine."
First of all, ten fics takes me back three years. O.O God, I write slow.
Less opening dialogue than I thought! Less present-tense than I thought, too. (All the dialogue ones that don't show tense immediately are past tense in the next sentence.)
Does tend to bring up the protagonist's name fairly quickly. I seem to be attempting to grab people's interest with the first line; don't know how effective that is.
I still write in small fandoms. (The Twelve & Clara fic was for FFA's Bad Bang, thus a small corner of a megafandom, and not serious fic in the slightest.)

Date: 2015-10-01 01:48 am (UTC)Actually I dithered about including the first two, since they were both for meme's Bad Bang ("fic written drunk and illustrated by five-year-olds" or something along those lines) and not really...proper fic. I think the first one was the one based on art of all the meme-specific characters in a Dashcon-esque ball pit; the story consisted of me trying to get them all in the same place to have a party in the ballpit. (Everyone 'except Loki.')

Date: 2015-10-01 06:15 am (UTC)I have heard that speculated about Susan (the Byron plot) which is the only thing that reconciles me to her being gone. The one scene I like with the Sheridan/Lochley thing was in Crusade where Lochley is talking to the Crusade captain and he's extolling Sheridan's virtues and she pokes a giant hole in it by going "Eh, he's not all that, I was married to him..." :P
Lennier can be in there but not Sheridan
Hah! :D Yeah, basically. The fic I wrote was based on the premise of a John/Delenn/Lennier triad while Sheridan was alive, and then Delenn falling in love with Susan (and still with Lennier, who hadn't run off or gotten killed or anything, something of an AU there) when Susan was running the Rangers. The most bizarre thing happened while I was writing it: while writing a Delenn and a Lennier who were both in mourning for their husband, I started actually caring about Sheridan (!). He is still not my fave or anything but some of my dislike for him wandered off. Still ship Delenn with about five other people (oh, Susan, Lennier, Jeff Sinclair, Shaal Mayan, Dukhat, for a start) before John, but I guess he can stay now too.
tl;dr You are correct and there should be MOAR Susan/Delenn. It's my big femslash ship for this show, despite canon Susan/Talia. But is also a good ship for the sort of thing where both of them have a lot of close relationships with other people and strong feelings about others (Talia, John, Lennier, Dukhat, even Marcus) that doesn't mean they don't love each other. You know that thing where someone has never truly loved until Current Partner? Totally won't fly with Susan/Delenn, and I like it that way. :D

Lochley was so underrated. That actress took on so many awful subplots and was the best thing in them, which is not saying much, but I really liked her. I was sad Crusade tanked because we didn't get to see her really in charge, but Crusade was sooo bad. SIGH.

YES THANK YOU
BECAUSE LENNIER WOULD NEVER ahem //still has strong feelings on Lennier
when Susan was running the Rangers.
Yes! That's awesome. Fits right in with that great narration right at the end of everything about Delenn and the sunrise and Ivanova changing, too.

how about Neroon or is that just meno subject
Date: 2015-10-06 04:55 am (UTC)(Though admittedly some of my stanning is because I too was in love with Delenn from afar, so I feel a bit of kinship there. If I were anyone in that universe I'd probably be an aide rather than a badass hero anyway, so there's that too. But yes. LALALA NOT LISTENING)
I feel like there is strong circumstantial evidence for Susan/Delenn in that last scene, if one wishes to read it that way. Very shippy. <3
Neroon is not just you. I have friends (the aforesaid
Me, I mostly like it in a "My gawd it's hot when Delenn cuts him off at the knees in that one scene where she's threatening him and his household" way, but that's me and my femdom kink and my "Delenn is so hot when she's powerful" kink. Heh.

Date: 2015-10-07 03:54 am (UTC)SERIOUSLY LENNIER WOULD NEVER
If I were anyone in that universe I'd probably be an aide rather than a badass hero anyway
....I would probably be Vir, except even more incompetent. Or I'd be stuck in Downbelow, haah.
I feel like there is strong circumstantial evidence for Susan/Delenn in that last scene
OH
YES
(And remember when Delenn's friend the poet visited? Also very shippy!)
a whole epic about Delenn/Neroon when they were young people before she went to work for Dukhat
OOOOOOOOOH.
but that's me and my femdom kink and my "Delenn is so hot when she's powerful" kink
Delenn was BADASS. "Be somewhere else." Staff-snapping! Council-dissolving! RAWR.

Date: 2015-10-07 05:50 am (UTC)Oh man, I ship Delenn/Mayan so hard. Between her and Draal I loved that Delenn had, like, friends from back home and wasn't one of these female characters who sprang into the story ex nihilo. Later I felt like they sort of quit paying attention to that, the more human Delenn got (though there was Neroon and the flashbacks to Dukhat) which made me sad. But I totally shipped Delenn with Mayan. Like, imagine them back in whatever passes for Minbari college years, arguing over philosophy and civil rights and foreign policy and art...Delenn from a political science and religion kind of angle, Mayan from a poet's point of view. And Delenn's the shy one, right, Mayan's all outspoken...cue later when Delenn is all badass and Mayan has to keep up! <3
(I do basically ship Delenn with everybody. Like I can imagine the same version of Delenn having had a thing with Mayan, then having a mentor/student hot-sex-against-walls-between-arguments thing with Dukhat, then years later a close friendship-with-benefits with Jeff, a mentor/student thing with Lennier but from the mentor side of things [and how much do I wish she'd gotten to introduce Lennier to Dukhat?], then John obviously because canon, at least some UST with Neroon, and a longstanding low-level simmering crush on Susan that ends up becoming an actual relationship when Susan is head of the Rangers. Delenn gets laid a lot in my head, basically. :P :P)
Be somewhere else! HI DELENN YOU ARE AWESOME AND BADASS
Also here is the Delenn/Neroon thing if you are interested, I liked it though it's not the pairing of my heart, but you might enjoy:

DUDE SERIOUSLY
STAYING UP ALL NIGHT TALKING AND READING YOUR POETRY ETC. ETC.

Yeah, it felt like some of the Minbari worldbuilding stopped when she got human, altho then we got some more of it through Marcus and other Ranger recruits, but they were more military types. I loved seeing daily Minbar stuff.

WHERE IS THIS FIC? THERE MUST BE ONE
SOMEWHERE ON THE ENTIRE INTERNET

That is A GOOD THING. (Was it me, or did she and Sheridan have not a lot of chemistry? Whereas I thought Delenn/Sinclair was pretty sizzling, especially in the first season.)
Be somewhere else! HI DELENN YOU ARE AWESOME AND BADASS
I love that moment on the commentary track when JMS is like "Five years, and people remember one line....okay, it _is_ a great line," and then he shushes himself to hear her say it and then goes "Yeah!" You can hear him punch the air. Awww yeah.
Also here is the Delenn/Neroon thing if you are interested
Oh, thank you! I was sort of fannish-but-not-into-fandom when B5 was airing, so I spent a lot of time on UseNet but didn't read fic....I don't think I started regularly reading fic until after Buffy S6, when I went looking for Spuffy and fell into slash. (Heh.) So I missed so much of it!
