In other news, on Sunday December 10th, I will be confirmed in the Episcopal Church here in Tennessee. :-) For someone who "doesn't believe in joining churches" (as I've said how many times, and still believe), and was raised as low-church as it is possible to get, joining the Anglicans may seem odd, but it is such a great place for me to be right now. And even more than how wonderful and sweet and loving my darling new church here is, I would like to toss garlands of flowers and thanks in the direction of the guy who runs the universe for how much happier and saner I am right now than I was this time ten years ago, or even five years ago. This flood of warm fuzzies and goofy thankfulness brought to you by me trying to describe my senior year in high school to someone, and realizing the huge absense of emotional and mental stress I have now by comparison. Woohoo! And St Chris's, I love you. "Safe, warm, happy" is on my confirmation banner for a reason. :D ~~(In Ragi, shutupshutup.)~~

Also, the solar-system tour from the game SecondLife is pretty damn cool. Just saying.

And early congratulations on the confirmation. My confirmation is the 16th (though I'm Catholic, not Episcopalian), and while I'm not entirely sure about it, I'm better off being confirmed even if I never go to church again than not confirmed at all.

Congrats on your confirmation too! I dithered about mine for ages, and then finally decided that I would probably regret it if I didn't--I couldn't stand not to go through with it with the rest of the group, who are all really interesting and sweet people whom I don't want to stop hanging out with now even though confirmation classes are over. (We shanghaied a bunch of them out to lunch today, and really will have to do it again sometime. Church people one wants to hang out with? I have got to stop being so shocked at that...)

*glomps* Best wishes to you! And, happy Advent! Church was all bright purple today, with the first Sunday of Advent thing, and all candles and lights and stuff. Oldskool liturgy, too, which I like less than the newer stuff, but eh. Fun still...

My girl scout meetings used to be held in that church (if it's the same one, up on a hill off Memorial) and my ex's sister's wedding was held there. The people there were quite lovely, always very nice to all of us. It was a nice place, I never felt sorely out of place there , even though I wasn't Christian. It's a nice place and I'm glad you've found it to be a nice fit for you :)

Ours is actually this little one over in Colonial Heights--I think the one on Memorial is St Timothy's. All stone walls, right? We went over there the other week for a service, and it was pretty cool. Our building is about half the size, and much easier to get to, not being up on top of a hill (mind you, trying to get to St Tim's at night not ever having been there before may have been part of the problem :P). We haven't met very many people from St Tim's so we have no idea how cool they are. But your rec makes them sound good, so yay. :D (Not feeling out of place is hard enough to do if one *is* a Christian, so if you felt okay there that's rather good.)

Yea, it's St. Timothy's up by Memorial, big hill and stone building. It's murder to try to get there the first time, esp at night, but after that it's really easy to find. I didn't know there was an Episcopalian church in Col. Heights. That's pretty cool.

This Muslim salutes your new-found faith. I've been too exhausted to find a Quran and a mosque to go to, but what I miss most about living away from Ma is not being able to get up at 4 in the morning, eating Sehri, fasting, eating Ma's wonderful Iftars, and then feasting at Eid.

Thanks. :-) I hope you can find a good place to go, too; I just realized lately that I actually did want a group to be with that I loved, the same way I want to be with good individual people. It surprised me that a) I wanted it and b) it was actually sometimes available. Something about not being alone, I suppose...one hears religious people talk about that all the time, but doesn't always get to see groups on operation that are healthy and welcoming. So it's kinda wonderful when one does.

Is Eid right around now? I know Ramadan was a couple months ago, and people were mentioning something called Eid then, too. *looks up Wikipedia* Oh! There's two. Cool.

I possibly rambled on about the Episcopalians to you when I came to visit, for which I apologize since I don't know how interested you were, but I suppose it says something if I can't shut up about them the way I usually can't shut up about a new shiny fandom.

And *giggle* I debated not doing my banner in Ragi, but then I thought, well, that script *does* say something to me that nothing else does, and they know I do weird calligraphy sometimes and think it's cool ("a script based on Mongolian" I said, leaving out the bit where it's from a fictional SF alien culture). And of course I must keep up my rep as a crazy geek. :P

I'm glad you're doing well, dear. If you want to join the Anglican church because you love it there, then do it. There's nothing written down in stone that says just because you used to be opposed to joining one church or another you can't change your mind later on. ;)

Hehe. I'm trying to remember that just because I grew up hearing that all the big famous churches didn't actually have God in them anymore, that's not necessarily true. I'm sure not all Anglicans are uniformly shiny, but the ones I've met are, and are just making me bliss out. Which is saying something for a church, huh?

And nobody's stopping me from going to whatever church I want, even if I get confirmed in this one, so that's good too.

Every group/category has people who aren't going to be all happyshinywonderful. We're talking about people, after all, so it's a given there will be problem children, as it were. Even the people who play nice will have their moments of being less than nice. It's faboo you've found a church were the people are happyshinynice and you feel welcome and included.

Yeah, yeah it is. :D Having tried it a bunch of other ways, this is the best yet, really. And my current church gives me the sort of feeling the Christmas carols thread on ML a while back that made me start lurking over there (which I do a lot now) did, so that's saying something very good about it. :D
