icon meme
I suppose this counts as a retro post, given it's my tenth LJ anniversary? :P
Mostly posting this to talk about the icons picked for me, but people can join in if they like.
1. Reply to this post with "not today," and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.
And
muccamukk picked these five:

1)
From the "So You're Mad About Something On The Internet" comic/flowchart at Laughing Squid, which urges one to disengage as early as possible rather than get progressively more enraged as people continue to be WRONG on the Internet. It concludes:
If you're arguing on the Internet, you've already lost. The next time something online's got your ire up, keep a cool head and just chill the fuck out and eat a sandwich.
Also it has a cute kitten in a graduation cap. So it was originally a reminder to not be That One Overinvested Poster, but I mostly use it now because cute kitty!
2)
Satai Delenn by
curtana. Delenn is my favourite forever, and one of the things that I like about her is that she is respected and honoured and obeyed as a legitimate leader of her people when we first meet her. There are very good reasons for her to go more rogue later, but I have a great fondness for her as Satai Delenn (because woman whose authority is just taken for granted, and also watching her cut Neroon off at the knees is hot, okay). So her title on this icon (over her very Minbari crest) makes me smile. Also it's a gorgeous yellow--an odd choice for a Minbari but it works really well here.
3)
Text icon: "Hmm, what? I didn't hear you. I was distracted by BOOBIES!" by
sparklebunny. What it says on the tin--boobs are awesome. Lesbians ftw. And also I think I saw this first at my sister
agentrosecotton's journal, so it reminds me of her.
4)
Text icon: "Dear 3 a.m., We have got to stop meeting like this. I'd much rather sleep with you" by
myth_moondancer. I am a night owl. It's also often a writing icon, since that's sometimes when I get my best work done.
5)
Young Wizards icon by
deutscheami. "I will put aside fear for courage," an extract from the wizards' oath in Diane Duane's Young Wizards books:
I like the philosophy there. I use it as sort of a "there is magic in the universe" icon, and also a reminder that I am braver than I think I am.
Your turn (if you like).

In Life's name and for Life's sake, I say that I will use the Art for nothing but the service of that Life. I will guard growth and ease pain. I will fight to preserve what grows and lives well in its own way; and I will change no object or creature unless its growth and life, or that of the system of which it is part, are threatened. To these ends, in the practice of my Art, I will put aside fear for courage, and death for life, when it is right to do so -- till Universe's end.
I like the philosophy there. I use it as sort of a "there is magic in the universe" icon, and also a reminder that I am braver than I think I am.
